 r the final concert of the season\, the Boston Philharmonic performs two g
 ripping and mesmerizing works\, performs Shostakovich's Second Cello Conce
 rto\, featuring Natalia Gutman\, cello\, and Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.
  Dark and introspective\, the Cello Concerto is the testament of a man who
  experienced the worst the Stalinist regime could do\, and survived--just 
 barely. For Romeo and Juliet\, Maestro Zander has prepared an extensive su
 ite that projects the variety of tragic grandeur of the score. At Thursday
 's concert\, Maestro Benjamin Zander will explain the works throughout the
  evening\, or attend pre-concert talks Saturday and Sunday to learn more.
