 ugh divided after World War II\, were inspired by similar subjects: the wa
 r and the division of their country and its former capital\, Berlin. Germa
 ny's continuing separation in the 1950s before the Wall and in the Sixites
  after the Wall inspired many films. How these  topics are reflected on fi
 lm\, however\, varies greatly. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Germ
 an unification\, the Goethe-Institut contrasts West and East German produc
 tions and their handling of these subjects. Similarities\, traditions and 
 connections between the two film cultures\, existing in distinctly differe
 nt social systems during the Cold War but based on the same origins\, will
