gin: 2010-10-14\nEvent Date End: 2010-10-14\n\nScript writers and director
s from West and East Germany\, although divided after World War II\, were
inspired by similar subjects: the war and the division of their country an
d its former capital\, Berlin. Germany's continuing separation in the 1950
s before the Wall and in the Sixites after the Wall inspired many films. H
ow these topics are reflected on film\, however\, varies greatly. To comm
emorate the 20th anniversary of German unification\, the Goethe-Institut c
ontrasts West and East German productions and their handling of these subj
ects. Similarities\, traditions and connections between the two film cultu
res\, existing in distinctly different social systems during the Cold War
but based on the same origins\, will be highlighted. \n5:00 pm: A Berlin R
