 the most important records of Aztec life around the time of the Spanish Co
 nquest\, the so-called Florentine Codex is a profusely illuminated multivo
 lume work produced by indigenous artist-scribes writing in three languages
 &mdash\;N&aacute\;huatl\, Spanish\, and Latin&mdash\;under the supervision
  of Franciscan friar Bernardino de Sahag&uacute\;n. This lecture will forc
 us on the significance of materials in the ancient Mesoamerican painting t
 echniques\, the status of the images in the codex\, and the way indigenous
  artists thought of themselves in early 16th-century Mexico.\n\nFree admis
 sion. Open to the public.\n\nPresented as part of the collaboration betwee
 n the Harvard Art Museums and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin Ameri
 can Studies to bring scholarship in Latin American art to Harvard and surr
 ounding communities.\n\nThe M. Victor Leventritt Fund was established thro
 ugh the generosity of the wife\, children\, and friends of the late M. Vic
 tor Leventritt\, Harvard Class of 1935. The purpose of the fund is to pres
 ent outstanding scholars of the history and theory of art to the Harvard a
