 loring the challenges and complexities that pianists face in the world tod
 ay\, through presentations and masterclasses by guest artists and NEC facu
 lty.\n\nDana Gooley\, NEC alum and current associate professor of music at
  Brown University\, leads today's seminar. Professor Gooley's research foc
 uses on 19th century European musical culture. His publications have focus
 ed on the cult of the virtuoso\, music criticism\, and the role of charism
 a in the public sphere of 19th century Europe. This makes him the perfect 
 person to be speaking on today's subject of Franz Lizst and improvisation.
