6-15\n\nBill Callahan\, who recorded and performed for almost 20 years und
er the name Smog\, comes to Boston in support of the second Bill Callahan
album\, Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle\, released in April 2009 by Drag
City. As Smog\, Callahan was a pioneer of the lo-fi recording revolution
\, releasing volumes of home-recorded\, four-track cassettes in the late 8
0s. He signed to legendary Chicago indie label Drag City in 1991\, and wit
h the release of the seminal Forgotten Foundation in 1992\, moved toward m
ore 'professional' sounding records\, with broader instrumentation and imp
roved sound quality. He has collaborated with Jim O'Rourke\, John McEntir
e (Tortoise)\, and Joanna Newsom\, and is often mentioned in the same brea
th as artists like Sebadoh\, Silver Jews\, Guided By Voices\, Palace and t
he Grifters. Callahan's meandering simple guitar riffs\, darkly humorous
lyrics\, and intimate baritone make for spooky American folk rock. \n'A re
fined mix of Americana\, country and gospel.'- Under the Radar \n'Mr. Cal
lahan has finally completed his two-decade transformation from malevolent
provocateur to aphoristic folk-rocker.' - Paste \n'Callahan is a true ori
ginal.' - Wire \n'...part Johnny Cash baritone swagger\, part Lou Reed ha
lting witticism\, frail and confident at once.- Drowned in Sound \nFor m
