04-13\n\nDescribed by Roger Tory Peterson as the &ldquo\;butterflies of th
e bird world\,' the colorful group of songbirds known as the wood warblers
return to Mount Auburn Cemetery each spring from wintering habitat as far
away as South America. Many of these species breed here in Massachusetts\
, while numerous others are pausing to refuel on their way to the northern
hardwood and boreal forests of northern New England and Canada. Warblers
play an important ecological role in the woodlands they inhabit and have b
een instrumental in expanding our understanding of ecological niches. Duri
ng this talk in Story Chapel\, Brooks Mathewson will present his photograp
hy of these amazing birds while discussing their ecology and some of the r
easons behind the severe declines they have suffered in the last half-cent
 ury.\n\nStart time: 6 p.m.
