8-27\n\nTsontakis: Knickknacks for Violin and Viola \nBrahms: Cello Sonata
  in E minor\, Op. 38 \nFaur&eacute\;: Piano Quartet in C minor\, Op. 15
\n\nKnickknacks by the award-winning composer George Tsontakis is a series
of entertaining miniatures. The music is accessible and emotionally invol
ving\, marked by striking colors and rhythms and a good dose of humor. Bra
hms' Cello Sonata in E minor is made up of three allegros that pay homage
to earlier masters. Cast in a Beethovenian sonata form\, the first movemen
t begins with a theme that recalls the finale fugue from J.S. Bach's The A
rt of the Fugue. The Piano Quartet in C minor\, one of the masterpieces of
Faur&eacute\;'s early period\, is an extraordinary achievement\, both for
the range of its expression and for his imaginative craftsmanship. The me
lancholy Adagio plays to every one of his lyric strengths-serenely express
 ive but nobly restrained.\n\nSteven Copes\, violin\nMaiya Papach\, viola\n
 Ronald Thomas\, cello\nBenjamin Hochman\, piano\n \n\nStart time: 8:00pm
