 Modern and Contemporary Art\n\nDoris Salcedo's chair\, Untitled (2004&ndas
 h\;5)\, is a sculpture that at once plays with Duchamp's concept of the &l
 dquo\;readymade&rdquo\; and stands as enduring witness to the violence tha
 t ravages many societies in the world today. This lecture will examine the
  evolution of Salcedo's oeuvre since the 1980s\, placing this piece within
  the context of her painstakingly constructed sculptures and installations
 \, which are informed by sociopolitical circumstances in Colombia and beyo
 nd. The talk will also consider Salcedo's work in the broader context of c
 ontemporary sculpture.\n\nThis popular series of special evenings features
  talks by curators\, after-hours viewing of the galleries\, live music\, c
