 18 wonderful works by Vittoria Aleotti\, an innovative early Italian Baroq
 ue composer and one of the least well known. Aleotti had a musical childho
 od\, including two years of lessons at the Convent of San Vito\, before sh
 e decided to take vows as a nun at that convent. On seeing the progress sh
 e was making in music theory\, her father obtained madrigal texts by the c
 ourt poet Giovanni Battista Guarini for Vittoria to set to music. The resu
 lting secular work is scored for a mixed chorus\, and Cappella Clausura ad
