 esign has changed the shape of American cities and open spaces in recent y
 ears\, representing a shift in the way designers approach the challenges o
 f urban life.\n\n&ldquo\;The Landscape Lectures will focus on contemporary
  issues in urban landscape design and the renewal of our connection with t
 he environment and with land itself\,&rdquo\; said Waldheim. &ldquo\;The t
 ransformative work of six leading practitioners of contemporary landscape 
 architecture will shed light on the most relevant topics in urban landscap
 e design.&rdquo\;\n\nThe opening lecture will be presented by Peter Walker
 \, a significant figure in the field of landscape architecture for more th
 an five decades. His career includes a wide range of projects that demonst
 rate a specific concern for urban and environmental issues. He recently co
 mpleted work on the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. Other speakers in the 
 series include Michael Van Valkenburgh\, Ken Smith\, Martha Schwartz\, Jam
