1\nEvent Date End: 2012-05-01\n\nPeople think of Boston as a very traditio
nal city\, but from the 1930s through the early 1970s it was a hotbed of M
odernism\, and all the great leaders in modern architecture - Walter Gropi
us\, Le Corbusier\, Frank Lloyd Wright\, among others - did work in New En
gland. Massachusetts is home to some of the most significant modern house
neighborhoods in this country\, of which Snake Hill in Belmont is one of t
he earliest and most significant. As part of Arlington Community Education
's Tuesday Night Conversations series\, architect and preservation activis
t David Fixler will discuss the importance of New England within the conte
xt of international Modernism and the work of DOCOMOMO\, an international
organization now at the forefront of the movement to preserve modern archi
tecture. The evening will be moderated by 'Fortune' magazine editor-at-lar
 ge David Whitford.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStart time: 7:30-9:00pm
