 bertiade\nEvent Date Begin: 2012-03-30\nEvent Date End: 2012-03-30\n\nThis
Primary Source program will feature the music of Franz Schubert\, and is
an homage to the legendary concerts ('Schubertiades')the composer held at
his home for his closest friends. It will include selected songs\, the Son
atina for Violin and Piano\, D. 408\, and the great Piano Quintet in A maj
or &ndash\; the &ldquo\;Trout\,&rdquo\; D. 667\, performed by Tanya Blaich
 \, Gabriel Boyers\, David Goodchild\, Emily Rome\, Michal Shein\, and Greg
Zavracky. First and Early editions of the music to be performed\, along w
ith a song edition signed by Schubert himself\, will be on display and dis
cussed in a short talk by musicologist Drew Massey at the start of the per
formance. Primary Source is a new chamber music concert series at the Goe
the-Institut in Boston\, and has been described as &ldquo\;pure delight&rd
quo\; and &ldquo\;spine-tingling&rdquo\; by Lloyd Schwartz of the Boston P
hoenix. Each concert is built around rare artifacts or manuscripts or orig
inal editions of a particular work or works\, supplied by Schubertiade Mus
ic\, antiquarian music and manuscript dealer based in Boston. Our concerts
begin with a short talk by a musicologist about the concert theme and art
ifacts on display and then the performers will use the original manuscript
or editions involved to perform. In every concert\, some early printed or
manuscript edition or program or ephemera has guided the programming of t
he work or works to be performed. The series seeks to create a new type of
dialogue around great music\, placing it in conversation with musical art
ifacts and their historical contexts. Rare items like the ones on display
at these concerts are usually destined for the vaults of libraries and mus
eums. Primary Source performances offer Boston's listeners a chance to exp
erience music and music history together in an intimate setting.\n\nStart
