ram Notes and Bios\n\nGrizzler is a large improvising band organized aroun
 d a diverse group\nof Boston's best musicians. Individually and in other g
roups\, these\nmusicians have developed their own strategies for music mak
ing. In\nGrizzler\, we each try to stay true to our own individual voices
 while\ncreating a collective\, spontaneous composition.\n\nForbes Graham i
 s a trumpet player\, composer\, and electronic musician\ncurrently based i
n the Boston area. He grew up in Silver Spring\, MD\nstudying and performi
ng jazz\, classical\, and concert band music. As a\nteenager he discovered
heavy metal and hardcore punk\, genres which\ninfluence his pursuit of ex
treme sound to this day. His music is also\ninfluenced by numerology\, poe
try\, cinema\, marching bands\, and the 80s\nin general (the era in which
he grew up). He has performed at Festival\nof New Trumpet\, Vision Festiva
 l\, High Zero\, amongst others.\n\nJack Callahan\, Amherst resident\, solo
percussionist and booker of\ncountless basement shows. His music aims to
create a total sonic\ntakeover of the space\, always by employing silence
to gather souls\ntowards a complete ecstatic takeover. (or\, sometimes by)
. Sometimes you\nwill ask\, 'is this record still playing'? Yes it is stil
l playing.\n\nCalled 'One of Boston's steadfast explorers\,' by the Boston
Globe\,\nsaxophonist David Gross has been performing for more than a deca
de.\nAmong a slew of others whose names are perhaps not as recognizable\,
\nMr.Gross has performed with Phil Minton\, Eddie Prevost\, Steve Roden\,
 \nJohn Olson\, Gino Robair\, Martin Tetreault\, Tom Carter\, Glenn Spearma
n\,\nRaphe Malik and many members of the Boston free-improv scene includin
 g\nBhob Rainey\, Greg Kelley\, and Laurence Cook. Currently\, Gross is\ntr
ansforming the saxophone into exactly what it is: a metal tube with\nkeys\
, mouthpiece\, and a reed. Reviews of his recordings have been as\nvaried
as 'The range of textured noise that he cajoles from his\ninstrument is im
pressive' to 'lengthy episodes of fingernails ripping\nat a blackboard' an
d recently 'the intimacy with which he approaches\nthe saxophone\, each sc
rew in each latch\, every fiber in the reed\, every\npad or valve\, and al
l the negative space in between\, is simply\nastounding'. Gross has perfor
med throughout the US and Europe including\nat festivals as diverse as The
KNOB (Wichita\, KS)\, Big Sur Festival of\nExperimental Music (CA)\, High
Zero (Baltimore\, MD)\, Improvised and\nOtherwise (NYC)\, The No Idea Fes
t (Austin\, TX) and Autumn Uprising\n(Boston\, MA) which he created in 199
 7. His most recent disk \,\n'untitled(or not yet)' (1pt8 seconds) a studio
recording with James\nColeman(theremin)\, Mike Bullock (contrabass) and S
teve Roden\n(electronics) was just released. Future releases include a liv
e\nre-issue of his band FETISH\, with bassist Mike Bullock and\npercussion
sit Tatsuya Nakatani (Weirdo Records) as well as his second\nsolo disk 'th
 is is the grizzle' (1pt8 seconds).\n\nStart time: Doors 7:30 pm \nMusic 8
