 e fountains. The rarely seen fragrant chimney bellflower\, Campanula pyram
 idalis\, appears in the courtyard. Our horticulturalists grow this plant a
 s a biennial from seed\; it takes two years to grow to its six-foot maturi
 ty. Dark maroon-red leaved rubber plants and variegated Euonymus accent th
 e display.\n\nCampanula pyramidalis is native to southern Europe but has b
 een cultivated in British greenhouses since the late '0s. The colloquial n
 ame\, chimney bellflower\, arose because it was fashionable to grow the pl
 ant in pots as a summer ornament for the fireless grate from the 17th to t
 he 19th centuries. With deadheading\, this plant can bloom for the whole o
