 \, The New York Times\n\nSofia Rei is one of the most passionate\, charism
 atic and inventive vocalists from South America.\n\nOriginally from Buenos
  Aires\, Argentina\, her music is grounded in traditional South American r
 hythms. Singing in Spanish\, Portuguese or English\, Sofia's voice is so g
 raceful as sophisticated\, tying together diverse influences in a program 
 full of rhythmic complexity\, melody and romance. Her ensemble produces a 
 range of textures as diverse as the cultural roots of its members\, an int
 ernational cast that includes some of the most exciting young talent from 
 North and South America.\n\nSofia is a restless artist\, one of the most v
 ersatile and in-demand singers on the New York music scene. In a short per
 iod of time she has recorded\, performed and collaborated with renowned mu
 sicians and groups. She toured Europe with the Grammy award winning Maria 
 Schneider Jazz Orchestra\, premiered with the group Cerulean Skies in Vien
 na\,. She was featured with vocal giant Bobby McFerrin in Instant Opera at
  Carnegie Hall. Sofia is a member of &ldquo\;Mycale&rdquo\;\, a NY based i
 nternational a- capella quartet Their CD &ldquo\;Mycale: Book of Angels 13
 &rdquo\; was released in early 2010\, Best Latin Jazz Album. In October 20
 09\, Sofia contributed her vocals to Ljova Zhurbin's Ni&ntilde\;a Dance wh
 ich was commissioned by the Carnegie Hall in 2009. In December 2009 she wa
 s one of four featured vocalists chosen to premiere newly commissioned wor
 k as part of The Jazz Gallery's &ldquo\;New Voices&rdquo\; concert series.
 \n\nSofia has toured extensively in Europe\, Asia\, North and South Americ
 a singing at renowned international festivals and venues such as the Carne
 gie Hall (NYC)\, Kennedy Center (Washington DC) \, Lincoln Center (NYC)\, 
 the Blue Note (NYC)\, the Village Vanguard (NYC) the Chicago World Music F
 estival (Chicago\, IL)\, Aspen/Snowmass Jazz Festival (Aspen\, CO)\, Cite 
 de la Musique (Paris\, France)\, the Festival de Jazz de Barcelona\, Festi
 val KESSE and Festival Grec (Spain)\, Montreal Jazz Festival (Canada)\, Te
 atro Manzoni (Italy)\, Beit Avi Chai (Israel). Her debut album Ojala was c
 hosen a top 10 album of 2006 by the Jazz Journalists Association. She has 
 also received the Best Latin Jazz Vocalist of 2009 Award by the Latin Jazz
  Corner. Sube Azul\, her second album as a leader has recently been releas
