-10-03\n\nAs the Syrian revolution enters its 17th month of struggle\, AIC
is excited to bring to Boston two activists to share their stories of cou
rage and their hopes for the future of their nation. First\, we will hear
from Ousama Nassar\, an activist from Daryya in the suburbs of Damascus.
Undeterred after arrest and the harrassment of his family\, Ousama has co
ntinued on\, founding an organization that promotes a doctrine of nonviole
nce\, transforming Daryya into the example of how nonviolent resistance is
still possible in the Syrian uprising. He has refused to leave his count
ry or give up this fight\, and he will join us via Skype to address the le
ss well-known nonviolent activities of the Syrian revolution and explain t
he consequences of the Daryya massacre.\nOur second speaker will be Yaman
Al Qadri\, a young woman who was studying medicine at Damascus University
when the revolution began. At only 19\, five months after the start of th
e revolution\, she was the first female student arrested at the university
because of her activism. The committee of the revolution named a day of
protests asking for her freedom and she was eventually released\, but was
dismissed from the university. Yaman now lives in Canada and will join us
to share the story of her arrest as well as discuss the role of students
and women in the revolution.\nWe hope you will join us on October 3rd at 6
:30pm at the AIC Center on Newbury Street to hear from these courageous in
dividuals. This event is free and open to the public.
