\, playing instruments either made in Mozart's time\, or accurate copies o
f them\, will play concertos by both Mozart and Haydn\, conducted by Ian W
atson\, Director of Music at First Parish in Lincoln. Arcadia Players\, f
ounded in 1989\, is well known as one of the premier period-instrument ens
embles in the Northeast\, and draws its players from both Boston and New Y
ork. On the program are concertos by Mozart and Haydn\, and also the cant
ata Exsultate Jubilate with Kristen Watson soprano\, which concludes with
the famous 'Alleluia'. Ian Watson himself will be the soloist in Mozart's
Piano Concerto in A\, K 414 using a replica of a late 18th century fortep
iano\, the forerunner of the modern grand. &ldquo\;Using instruments from
the period is not an historical or academic exercise'\, Watson added\, 'W
e use them to imbue the music with the same passion and white-hot intensit
y with which it was created. That is a truly authentic approach. Present-d
ay audiences are used to hearing instruments which have a powerful sound.
Our instruments are not so powerful\, but the clarity and purity of sound
more than compensates for the sheer volume'.\n\nStart time: 3pm
