al worlds collide with a Chinese landscape\, winter-inspired vocals\, and
one of the orchestral repertoire's 'top ten.' CHOU And the Fallen Petals\n
 LAURIDSEN Mid-Winter Songs\nFeaturing Lyricora (Thomas Brooks\, director)
\nHOLST The Planets Explore the astrological signficance of the planets an
d their connection with the deities of classical mythology in Holst's The
Planets. With several movements\, some of which sounding familiar and some
not\, this is music that covers as wide as possible a musical gamut as th
e planet themselves dictate. \nThe use of the pentatonic scale and falling
intervals to represent the falling of petals in Chou's work All The Falle
n Petals evokes images that inspire\; a quiet landscape\, budding blossoms
  dancing in praise\, spring winds\, and a tumultous storm. \nMid-Winter S
ongs is rich with slow moving bass lines\, widely-spaced chords\, and a fo
ndness for pedal points. The feeling is more agitated and disturbed\, crea
ting the perfect contrast of new vs. old alongside the Holst and Chou piec
es. Lyricora is a Boston area ensemble dedicated to engaging\, educating a
nd entertaining audiences through performances of the highest caliber. The
ensemble strives to integrate New England's rich historical tradition of
choral music with new directions in contemporary literature. In concert Ly
ricora is dedicated to bridging the gap between listener and performer &nd
ash\; presenting programs that are accessible to today's audiences while m
 aintaining artistic expression and performance.
