 ntimate link between art and food &ndash\; one that spans cultures\, time 
 and place. Throughout the centuries\, artists have been attracted to food 
 as a subject and often used it metaphorically: water represented sustenanc
 e of life\, pomegranates\, hope and eternal life\; and\, the still lifes o
 f the Dutch masters\, so gloriously overflowing with fruit\, game\, fish a
 nd fowl\, symbolized the abundance of Holland's thriving economy in the 17
 th century.\n\nContemporary artists are still drawn to food as subject mat
 ter. &ldquo\;Consuming Passion: Food as Metaphor in Art&rdquo\; brings tog
 ether 13 artists who work in a variety of media and materials - including 
 edible ones &ndash\; to express a range of intentions. Some artists use fo
 od imagery as a metaphor for human relations and society's challenges\, ot
 hers to celebrate memory\, while others delve into the complexities of the
  structure of food itself &ndash\; exploring line\, color\, pattern and sp
 ace.\nConcord Art Association is pleased to present the work of the thirte
