\n Noche Andaluza' is a beautiful and fiery program for violin and piano t
hat explores the music of composers such as Falla\, Ravel\, and Poulenc t
hat were inspired by the music and historical events of Spain. One o
f these gems is de Falla's 'Siete Canciones Populares Espa&ntilde\
;olas\,' which draws from Andalusian Flamenco\, specifically cante
jondo. Francis Poulenc's 'Sonata for violin and piano' was composed
during 1942 and 1943 while his country was at war and its dedication is t
o the memory of a victim of a then recent foreign conflict: Federico Garci
a Lorca\, the poet\, who was slain during the Spanish Civil War. Ra
vel's 'Pi&egrave\;ce en forme de Habanera\,' is a blindingly difficult
virtuoso exercise modeled after the habanera\, a slow sultry Spanish da
nce and of 'Tzigane\,' Ravel wrote to Bartok\, 'You have inspired
me to write a short piece of diabolical difficulty\, conjuring
up the Hungary of my dreams. Since it will be for violin\, why don't we
 call it 'Tzigane'?'\n \n
