 \, founder and director of the world-renowned Bach Collegium Japan\, will 
 conduct the Yale Schola Cantorum in a performance of Bach cantatas. Also f
 eatured on the program are members of the Yale Baroque Ensemble. This free
  concert will take place at 5 pm at Christ Church Episcopal (84 Broadway a
 t Elm\, New Haven). \n\nLike all Bach cantatas\, the three on this program
 &mdash\;Nach dir\, Herr\, verlanget mich (BWV ')\; Gottes Zeit ist die all
 erbeste Zeit (BWV 106)\; Lass\, F&uuml\;rstin\, lass noch einen Strahl (BW
 V 198)&mdash\; were composed either for use during Sunday worship or to su
 it a special occasion. Cantatas provided an important opportunity for scri
 ptural insight and meditation\, and in the case of these three cantatas\, 
 had their origins in penitential services and funerals.
