On ly original work created within the last three years may be submitted.\nAr tists\, designers and engineers are invited to submit creative artistic de signs for outdoor bike racks to be used at Bismore Park located in the HyA rts Cultural District in Hyannis on the Hyannis Harbor. Bismore Park is ar tfully distinguished for the 7 colorful artist shanties that are filled wi th Cape Cod artists and artisans displaying their unique pieces of art beg inning each May thru October. Several million residents and visitors pass through the Hyannis Harbor each year.\nThis call to artists offers the opp ortunity to design a functional\, aesthetically intriguing design. \n\nTho se submitting proposals should consider the following:\n>\;These bike ra cks will be fabricated in galvanized steel with colored powder coating or comparable durable components to withstand the elements. The artist is sub mitting the design only\, the town will cover expense to fabricate.\n\n> \;The rack should accommodate approximately 5 to 10 bicycles. \nMeasuremen ts of space #1 (Visitor Center): 8' X 19'\nMeasurements of space #2 (Shed) : 12' X 18'\n>\;The base or anchoring points of the rack will be submerg ed three feet into the ground or properly secured to a concrete pad with t amperproof hardware.\n>\;The rack must be designed to:\n&bull\; support an bicycle by its frame in the upright position\n&bull\; have two points p er bicycle to secure the bike to the rack \n&bull\; allow each bicycle to be removed without having to move another bicycle\n&bull\; endure repeated user interaction and engagement \n&bull\; accommodate a variety of bicycl e sizes and shapes.\nSubmission Process:\nAll design submissions are due b y midnight\, Monday\, January 14th\, 2013. The design submissions should b e mailed to: Growth Management Department\, c/o Melissa Hersh\, Town of Ba rnstable\, 367 Main Street\, Hyannis\, MA 02601. \n\nAll submissions must include: \nCover letter with project name\, designer name and contact info rmation\; Up to 4 sketches/images of the design submitted on a CD or Thumb drive. Applicants will be notified of the se lection of design no later than Friday February 1st\, 2013. Should a desig n not be selected\, no cash prize will be awarded. The Town reserves the r ight to extend the call for design submissions. \n\nAll submissions become the property of the Town of Barnstable. The Town reserves the right to di scuss an alternate design with the selected artist for use with the bike r ack or for other design projects within the Town of Barnstable.
