 forbearance of their neighbors. In a rural village\, that fragile balance 
 is disturbed\, and the arrival of a renowned witch-finder provides the com
 munity with a focus for its frustrations. When witchcraft exists in the mi
 nds of persecutor and persecuted\, petty and everyday transgressions becom
 e hanging crimes.\nPunctuated by music hall variety acts and live musical 
 performances\, Churchill's 1976 play uses mordant wit and biting political
  commentary to explore the prejudices and fears that actively shape our li
