  band will perform classics such as Come Sunday and Pork Pie Hat\, counter
 pointed by music director Mark Harvey's fresh arrangements of the Latin-ja
 zz Una Mas by Kenny Dorham and Miles Mode by John Coltrane. Jazz Improv ca
 lled Aardvark &ldquo\;captivating\, highly recommended\,&rdquo\; while Cul
 tureJazz.Fr (France) praised the band's &ldquo\;expansive harmony\, brilli
 ant music...discipline\, openness\, and freedom.&rdquo\;\n \nFuture events
  in Aardvark's 40th season include the world premiere of Mark Harvey's epi
 c new work\, Boston JazzScape (10 years in the making) at Boston's Museum

 nal jazz scene for 40 years\, the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra is one of the lo
 ngest running large jazz ensembles in North America. Winner of the 2000 In
 dependent Music Awards\, the band has premiered more than ' works for jazz
  orchestra. Guest artists who have appeared with Aardvark include jazz lum
 inaries Jaki Byard\, Sheila Jordan\, Jimmy Giuffre\, Geri Allen\, Lewis Po
 rter\, Vinny Golia\, Dominique Eade\, Jay Clayton\, Paul Lovens\, Rajesh M
 ehta\, Matt Savage and Walter Thompson.\nAardvark's 40th season features t
 he international release of Evocations\, the band's 11th CD and its 6th re
 cording on Leo Records\, a leading independent label whose catalogue inclu
 des such notables as Cecil Taylor\, Sun Ra\, Anthony Braxton and The Art E
 nsemble of Chicago.\nEvocations was chosen by The New York City Jazz Recor
 d as one of the magazine's picks for Best of 2012 New Releases.\n \nFounde
 r and music director Mark Harvey has performed as trumpeter in the U.S.\, 
 Mexico and Europe\; has recorded with George Russell (Blue Note) and Baird
  Hersey (Arista/Novus)\; and performed with Gil Evans\, Claudio Roditi\, H
 oward McGhee\, Sam Rivers\, Joe Carroll\, Kenny Dorham and others. He has 
 received awards and commissions from ASCAP\, the National Endowment for th
 e Humanities\, the 15th Annual John Coltrane Memorial Concert\, and Meet-t
 he-Composer-Lila Wallace/Reader's Digest Commissioning Program\, among oth
 ers. Commissions have featured such revered artists as Joe Lovano\, Steve 
 Turre\, Herb Pomeroy and Ran Blake. Dr. Harvey teaches jazz studies and co
