  Peltz\, Director of Wind Ensemble Activities\, welcomes back Frank Battis
 ti\, founder of the NEC Wind Ensemble\, for a Valentine's tribute to compo
 ser Karel Husa. Battisti not only founded the Wind Ensemble but taught man
 y young conductors including NEC's Charles Peltz and William Drury in the 
 Wind Ensemble Conducting program he founded. Battisti also conducted many 
 new works\, some he commissioned\, others for which he gave the premieres.
  Among the composers he particularly championed was the Czech-born Karel H
 usa (b. 1921)\, winner of the 1969 Pulitzer Prize and 1993 University of L
 ouisville Grawemeyer Award in Music Composition. Among the Husa works bein
 g performed tonight is Music for Prague\, composed in memory of the 1968 S
