 /event/detail/44503/Ellen_OBrien\nEvent Date Begin: 2009-06-18\nEvent Date
End: 2009-06-18\n\nEven when she was an eight-year-old kid in her hometow
n of Revere\, everyone called Ellen O'Brien 'the singer.' Kids stopped her
on the street and asked her to sing. And like a thousand other kids\, she
sang in school plays and dreamed of some day becoming famous. But that w
as a long time ago\, before she went to Berklee School of Music\, before s
he won the Apollo Theatre competition three times in a row. Before she san
g solo at Lincoln Center. Before she fronted her own band\, touring the US
and Canada. Before she became one of the most sought-after 'event' perfor
mers in New York City. \nWhen people hear Ellen live today\, they all wan
t to know\, 'How come she isn't famous yet?' and 'Where can I get a CD?'
Small wonder. She steps up to the mic\, smiles that thousand-kilowat smile
and right away she owns the room. Then out comes that big voice. There's
R&B in her. Gospel. FM pop and straight-down-the-line jazz. But she's more
than just a pro with amazing chops. You listen to Ellen for two minutes a
nd you know she's not just about riffs and blowing you away with technique
. She's got true soul -- and that's the starlight that shines when Ellen s
ings. Her career highlights include: Sold Out Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC
