  of civic sculpture in the United States and with an eye trained on modern
 istic objects and architecture\, Rita McBride's sculptures toy with the fu
 nctionalism and formalism of public structures. McBride has explored the i
 mpotence of skylights as architectural elements\, the parasitic relationsh
 ips of HV AC units and awnings to their hosting buildings\, and the transf
 ormative effects of tiered seating on social spaces.\nRecent solo exhibiti
 ons include Kunstmuseum Winterthur\, Museum Abteiberg\, M&ouml\;nchengladb
 ach\, Wiener Secession\, Vienna\, Sculpture Center\, NYC and the galleries
  Mai 36 Galerie\, Zurich and Alexander and Bonin\, New York City. She has 
 been the recipient of a DAAD Residency Award\, Berlin\, a Guggenheim Fello
 wship\, NYC\, and a Rome Prize. Her work is in numerous public and private
