Gunther Schuller, former president of New England Conservatory and author of Early Jazz, The Swing Era and other important jazz and classical music texts, will be the Institute's keynote speaker. While passive musical recognition is important, we will emphasize concentration on long-term melodic and harmonic memory. In pursuing retention of these artists' personal styles and unique attributes, students will learn to develop aural recognition of one melody and will study four or five numbers by Armstrong and Fitzgerald. In addition to the classes, Ran Blake will schedule individual appointments for each student to discuss transcriptions, papers, the concert performances.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:Varying, (9-Meetings)
