SUMMARY:Concert 3: Vaughan Williams, Szymanowski, Elgar
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Concert 3: Vaughan Williams, Szymanowski, Elgar=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/440861271=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2011-02-26=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2011-02-26=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Boston Philharmonic performs Vaughan William's Tallis Fantasy, Elgar's Enigma Variations and Szymanowski's Second Violin Concerto featuring Ilya Kaler, violin. These three beloved and famous works draw on each composer's connection to his native land. Tallis Fantasy takes an English renaissance theme and weaves it into a 20th century setting. Szymanowski's Violin Concerto pulls inspiration from Polish folk music. The evening closes with Elgar's Enigma Variations, a work that is at times wistful and then righteous. At Thursday's concert, Maestro Benjamin Zander will explain the works throughout the evening, or attend pre-concert talks Saturday and Sunday to learn more.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:8:00pm, 6:45pm pre-concert lecture
