The Second Symphony is the first of the three so-called “Wunderhorn” symphonies, tied closely to Mahler's individual song settings of poetry from the folk poetry collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn (“The Boy's Magic Horn”). Both soloists are making their BSO subscription series debuts.
