SUMMARY:Concert Season: Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Makan, Chausson
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Concert Season: Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Makan, Chausson=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/440966033=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2011-04-10=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2011-04-10=0D=0A=0D=0AMozart's Flute Quartet, K285 is primarily in concertante style where the flute is treated as a solo instrument. The Adagio movement has been called perhaps the most beautiful accompanied solo ever composed for the flute. Saint-Saens' Fantaisie is easily assimilated, and most enjoyable for its ravishing use of the coloristic possibilities of the violin and harp. Commissioned by the Harvard Musical Association, Nothing is More Important for Flute, Viola and Harp is a new work by MIT composer Keeril Makan, utilizing the unique timbres first explored by Debussy. The Piano Quartet in A major is a capstone to Chausson's chamber music output, a work of vivid inspiration and one shaped effectively by the way he employs the device of using variants of the thematic material in several movements to unify the work as a whole.=0D=0A==0D=0A=Concert 5:=0D=0A=Mozart: Flute Quartet in D major, K. 285=0D=0A=Saint-Saëns: Fantaisie in A major for Violin and Harp, Opus 124=0D=0A=Makan: Nothing is More Important, for Flute, Viola, and Harp (2009) =0D=0A=Chausson: Piano Quartet in A major, Op. 30=0D=0A==0D=0A=Fenwick Smith, flute / Harumi Rhodes, violin =0D=0A=Marcus Thompson, viola / Astrid Schween, cello =0D=0A=David Deveau, piano / Jessica Zhou, harp=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:7:30 p.m.
