DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: The Day the Earth Stood Still with Roboticist Dennis Hong=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/440986823=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2010-12-13=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2010-12-13=0D=0A=0D=0AThe Coolidge Corner Theatre's Science on Screen series continues with a special showing of The Day the Earth Stood Still. Robert Wise's 1951 film, about an alien envoy, Klaatu, who travels to Earth with his giant robot protector, Gort to warn human beings that they must stop their warring ways or face perilous consequences, is considered by many to be one of the greatest science-fiction films of all times. Dr. Dennis Hong, associate professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of the groundbreaking Robotics & Mechanisms Laboratory at Virginia Tech, joins us before the film to speak about some of the amazing robots developed at his lab, including humanoid robots that require no remote power source or computer, have arms and legs, walk like humans, and can even play a game of soccer.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:7:00pm
