SUMMARY:Jazz Performance & Talk featuring the Bebop Trio
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Jazz Performance & Talk featuring the Bebop Trio=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/441166131=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2011-04-10=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2011-04-10=0D=0A=0D=0AJourney, with us, into this musical playground Cambridge, MA – Sunday, April 10, 2011 D. R. Finch Music Foundation will present a distinctive jazz performance on Sunday, April 10th, 2011 from 3:30-4:30pm at the Lily Pad in Cambridge, 1353 Cambridge Street (Inman Square). Lefteris Kordis on piano, Alec Spiegelman on clarinet, and Austin McMahon on drums, make up the “Bebop Trio”. The trio explores a rare repertory of mid-century progressive jazz compositions. Employing a post-modern sensibility and a contagious sense of humor, these musicians play fast, loose, and funny with tunes by Bud Powell, Duke Ellington, Lennie Tristano, and others. Listen as each band member seamlessly moves in and out of each tune at any given point. Understanding the jazz structure and knowing the compositions thoroughly are the rules to this game, but it's the imagination and playfulness that bring the fun. Attendees can expect a presentation accessible to the non-musician, but with enough novel perspective to interest the jazz aficionado or practitioner. This jazz performance and talk is free and open to the general public. Light refreshments will be served. About D.R. Finch Music Foundation The D.R. Finch Music Foundation is a non-profit jazz organization that began as a result of the premature passing of Dr. Derrick R. Finch. Dr. Finch was hip. The piano was his woman and he made love at every opportunity: from Johannesburg, South Africa to Paris, France to a White House Inaugural celebration. No matter the place, he sent listeners home feeling good! Friends of Dr. Finch, family members and jazz adorers alike are working to continue his legacy of storytelling, creating music and sharing the knowledge.
