SUMMARY:The BIG Funk
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: The BIG Funk=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/441648331=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2012-07-20=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2012-07-22=0D=0A=0D=0AWe are performing a unique fusion of live music and theatre, as well as a full bar, in the Davis Square Theatre. The play is 'THE BIG FUNK' by John Patrick Shanley, and stars local East-coast talent as well as incorporates some of Boston's hottest local bands into the show. The bands also perform sets before and after the show as well as during intermission. The Big Funk, an absurd comedy written by Pulitzer-Prize winning auther John Patrick Shanley, opens with an argument over who -of the 4 characters- is the hero of the story. There's Fifi and Omar, a married couple who have a knife throwing circus act and find out they are due with twins the next day, their friend Austin, an out of work actor who wears a drip dry suit in order to give a woman he's just met a nice bath; Gregory, a charming man who carries around a jar of Vaseline, and Jill, a volunteer/ campaign manager looking for love. How do these people function in a society filled with cynicism? Who is the hero? What is the Big Funk? Incorporated into each performance will be some of Greater Boston's hottest funk/pop/rock bands, which will play their original music, as well as some covers. There will be a different band everyweekend, as well as a full bar and the expert mixologists of Saloon, one of Davis Square's hottest restaurants, located in the same building. Last week, local band Cosmodrome played a sultry version of 'Girl from Ipanema', during the bath scene, and the week before, Boston's pop-funk sensation Miss Fairchild inspired a cast/crew/audience dance party at the end of the show. The show is running this weekend, July 20th, 21st, and 22nd, all at 7pm, featuring Sarah Blacker and George Woods as the musicians. The show contains nudity=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:7 pm
