SUMMARY:The Glass Flowers
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: The Glass Flowers=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/441653484=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2012-10-09=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2015-12-31=0D=0A=0D=0A3,000 amazingly realistic models of plants, flowers and fruits, painstakingly crafted in glass from 1886 to 1936 by German glass artists, father and son Leopold and Rudolph Blaschka. Some 4,000 models were made by just two men, Leopold Blaschka (1822-1895) and his son Rudolph (1857-1939). Heirs to a long tradition of glass-working in Bohemia, they had moved to Germany and established a studio outside of Dresden.=0D=0A=Glass Flowers would be a perfect addition to visits to the Boston Garden & Flower Show, March 16-20, 2011, or the 10th World Flower Show in June 15-19, 2011. Docent-led tours of the gallery are available on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons, although these are not necessary as good signage and a short video presentation makes self-guided tours just as rewarding.=0D=0A=For more information, visit:=0D=0A=http://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/on_exhibit/the_glass_flowers.html=0D=0A=Glass artist Dale Chihuly on the Glass Flowers at Harvard:=0D=0A='It is an unbelievable collection...No one really knows how they did that, it is mind boggling and extraordinary.'=0D=0A=
