SUMMARY:Consuming Passion: Food As Metaphor in Art
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Consuming Passion: Food As Metaphor in Art=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/441653600=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2012-10-18=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2012-11-18=0D=0A=0D=0AOpening reception: Thursday, October 18, 6-8:00pm=0D=0A=There is an intimate link between art and food – one that spans cultures, time and place. Throughout the centuries, artists have been attracted to food as a subject and often used it metaphorically: water represented sustenance of life, pomegranates, hope and eternal life; and, the still lifes of the Dutch masters, so gloriously overflowing with fruit, game, fish and fowl, symbolized the abundance of Holland's thriving economy in the 17th century.=0D=0A==0D=0A=Contemporary artists are still drawn to food as subject matter. “Consuming Passion: Food as Metaphor in Art” brings together 13 artists who work in a variety of media and materials - including edible ones – to express a range of intentions. Some artists use food imagery as a metaphor for human relations and society's challenges, others to celebrate memory, while others delve into the complexities of the structure of food itself – exploring line, color, pattern and space.=0D=0A=Concord Art Association is pleased to present the work of the thirteen artists in this exhibit: =0D=0A=Niels Burger=0D=0A=David Frazer=0D=0A=Judith Klausner=0D=0A=Elizabeth Kostojohn=0D=0A=Hannah Perrine Mode=0D=0A=Judith Motzkin=0D=0A=Joyce Utting Schutter=0D=0A=Tara Sellios=0D=0A=Elizabeth Slayton=0D=0A=Judith Solomon=0D=0A=Jessica Straus=0D=0A=Kathleen Volp=0D=0A=Sue Yang=0D=0A==0D=0A=Related programming:=0D=0A=Sara Moulton, chef, cookbook author and TV personality, will be speaking at Concord Art Association on Sunday, November 18 at 2:00pm.
