From 1681 to his death, Erlebach was the Kappelmeister to Count Phillip Anton at the Thüringian Court Schwarzberg-Rudolstadt. He was quite prolific, writing at least five cycles of cantatas. His cantatas rank among the best of his generation, though sadly most of his output burned in a fire in Rudolstadt not long after his death.  The two cantatas featured on December 9th are tremendously beautiful and are sure to warm your soul on a chilly December morning.
