As a child she learned basketry, rug weaving, and Gullah folk arts and culture from her paternal grandmother. Theresa departed this life in 2008 after a long career as a lecturer, teacher, activist and artist utilizing fiber as her major medium.=0D=0A=Through her work, education and travel Theresa-India Young believed passionately that weaving and its cultural traditions should be encouraged in the wider art world and might die out if not deliberately brought to the forefront in an educational arena.=0D=0A=Many thanks to the well-known Boston artists for donating work to help ensure the preservation of weaving and its traditions as a means of transmitting culture, language and literacy with the Theresa-India Young Ethnic Weaving Scholarship at Massachusetts College of Art & Design.=0D=0A=&nbsp;
