SUMMARY:BASS SOUNDS: Music for Unaccompanied Cello from the Early Baroque
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: BASS SOUNDS: Music for Unaccompanied Cello from the Early Baroque=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/441656436=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2013-02-16=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2013-02-16=0D=0A=0D=0AIn this unique concert, Baroque cellist Emily Davidson explores lesser-known repertoire for the unaccompanied cello. Musicians and classical music fans alike are familiar with the Cello Suites of J.S. Bach; this program examines the predecessors to these famous pieces. Ricercars by Gabrielli and Antonii use the cello as a true bass line voice—many of them don't expand beyond the tenor range and make good use of the low register. The music is dark, mysterious, and peculiar at times, but never fails to convey a time period of rich musical expression. J.S. Bach's first Cello Suite will close the program.=0D=0A=In addition, she'll be releasing BASS SOUNDS, her debut solo CD, at the concert! CDs will be available for purchase after the show (and available online on February 17).=0D=0A=From Emily: I'm so excited about this repertory which is so rarely performed or recorded.
