SUMMARY:North End Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: North End Walking Tour=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsboston.org/event/detail/44807=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2009-06-05=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2009-10-31=0D=0A=0D=0AAmerica's oldest urban neighborhood is a delightful labyrinth of narrow streets and exotic marketplaces. The walking tour of the North End makes a perfect companion to Boston By Foot's Heart of the Freedom Trail tour continuing on through second mile of Boston's famous historic walk. A gateway for immigrants from around the world, the North End is also home to the Old North Church, Copp's Hill Burying Ground, and the Paul Revere House. This neighborhood was isolated from the rest of downtown by the construction the old Central Artery in the 1950's, meaning the North End remained largely preserved from modern development. Just before entering the North End, you will be greeted by the new North End parks of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. Walking among the Italian markets and downtown Boston's largest collection of colonial buildings, you'll hear the story of a changing neighborhood: the sermons and deeds of the Reverend Mathers; the exploits of Paul Revere; the rise of the Fitzgeralds and their Irish brethren; the fall of a whole lot of molasses; and present day regentrification.=0D=0A=Meet your guide in front of the statue of Samuel Adams (in front of Faneuil Hall facing Congress Street). Purchase tickets for the North End tour directly from your guide. No reservations are required. Tour begins on time and will be offered rain or shine. Please arrive ten minutes before start time.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:1:00pm
