The program for the season opening concert includes Schubert's String Trio in B-flat major, D.581; Harbison's Piano Trio No.2; and Brahms's Piano Quartet in A minor, Op. 26. Featuring Ida Levin, violin; Marcus Thompson, viola; Andrew Mark, cello and David Deveau, piano.=0D=0A= =0D=0A=Schubert's second String Trio D.581 is marked with a strong sense of continual musical conversation among the instruments: the violin recounts a series of events and the viola and cello listen in and respond from time to time. Harbison's Piano Trio No.2, Short Stories, explores four kinds of musical narrative, each capable of clarity and its opposite. The Piano Quartet in A major by Brahms, coincidently also his second work with the given instrumentation, serves to complement as well as to provide contrast to the accompanying Quartet in G minor written the same year. Filled with a wealth of melodic material and musical details, it is as tuneful a work of chamber music as the composer ever composed=0D=0A= =0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:7:30 p.m.
