Stockhausen's Aus den sieben Tagen
February 22, 2009
NEC's Callithumpian Consort and the nec shivaree perform Stockhausen's groundbreaking intuitive music collection Aus Den Sieben Tagen (From the Seven Days), beginning at 3pm, and continuing on throughout the evening. Concert goers are encouraged to come and go as they please during this marathon performance. Aus den sieben Tagen (From the Seven Days) is a collection of 15 text compositions composed in May 1968, in reaction to a "personal crisis" of Stockhausen's, and is characterized as "intuitive music", music produced primarily from the intuition rather than the intellect of the performer. Performer instructions by Stockhausen include phrases such as "Play a sound with the certainty that you have an infinite amount of time and space." and "Live completely alone for four days without food in complete silence, without much movement. Sleep as little as necessary. Think as little as possible. After four days, late at night, without conversation beforehand, play single sounds, WITHOUT THINKING which you are playing. Close your eyes. Just listen." Join us today at NEC for a performance that will be talked about for years! Takes place in Brown Hall.
