A Jewish chiropractor, a Catholic defense lawyer, a gay prosecutor, and a pill-popping judge walk into a courtroom..." It's ROMANCE...Mamet-style. Lawyers and judges, Jews and Christians, homosexuals and chiropractors no one gets off easy in Mamet's madcap skewering of the American legal system. As a Mideast Peace Conference convenes nearby, an ambiguous court case is persistently interrupted by domestic squabbles, ethnic slur-slinging, and a hallucinating judge. The noble practice of Law degenerates into sheer comic chaos as Mamet ponders the most fundamental human question: Why can't we all just get along? ROMANCE is the first of three productions featuring David Mamets comic work entitled Sex, Satire, Romance, and Ducks: A David Mamet Celebration, which also include the Mamet double bill SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO and THE DUCK VARIATIONS, and SERIOUSLY FUNNY, an evening of short plays by Mamet, and his friends Harold Pinter and Shel Silverstein.

      Wonderful play full of crazy over the top antics and great comedic performances. Will Lebow is fantastic and well supported by the other actors. Thoroughly enjoyable. It brightened our day!

      Much like the pain of a 4 pepper Thai meal, the embarrassment at laughing (while cringing)publicly at such non-pc material was great fun. Mamet's verbal choreography as amazing as ever; Will Lebow's slapstick skills a treat- as was the rest of the cast.       Contrary to the warning in the lobby, Mamet's targets in this outrageous farce seemed confined to Jews, Catholics and Homosexual Males. That would have been okay, but Mamet too often substitutes... Expand

      Contrary to the warning in the lobby, Mamet's targets in this outrageous farce seemed confined to Jews, Catholics and Homosexual Males. That would have been okay, but Mamet too often substitutes F-bombs for wit. Given the limitations of the material, the cast did a fabulous job of making it all work. Thomas Derrah and Carl Foreman are hysterical as the gay odd couple, and Will LeBow, as the judge, gives the best comedic performance I've seen in Boston. Only Jim True-Frost, as the Catholic prosecutor, seemed to be out of his element (I liked him in "The Wire"). The set design is truly impressive and adds a lot to the overall high quality of the production. I just kept wishing Mamet had made the effort to be more sassy and less crude. Collapse

      This was a well executed comedy with superior actors, a fantastic script, and amazing sets. Most of the actors were superior but the whole production was hysterical. Don't take your mother or your little sister unless they don't mind "R" rated language which only enhanced the entire production. Collapse

      I read very little about ROMANCE before going, but like others by Mamet. Although the strong language generates shock at first, the sense of humor is never lost. All the characters and plot tie in... Expand

      I read very little about ROMANCE before going, but like others by Mamet. Although the strong language generates shock at first, the sense of humor is never lost. All the characters and plot tie in strongly at the end in true theater classic style. Not meant to be over-analyzed, this play is just a nice 1 hour and a half of fun and laughter. Collapse
