      We have actually seen the play twice. Since it was extended we brought an out of town guest. The entire cast was very talented and extremely good in their roles. The play was irreverent, bawdy and yet wonderfully poignant and true. Thanks to the theater and cast. Collapse

      While I was excited to see this show, I have to admit I thought it was a hot mess. The first half was fun, funny, a bit lude, but very enjoyable. It's the second half that ruined the entire experience for me. As a gay man, I feel I'm pretty liberal, open minded and accepting. I felt that the writers, directors and performers went to far. The night I went, I saw three separate couples walk out of the show, when the Satan and Jesus characters were spewing the f-bomb all over the place. Wasn't quite sure why that was necessary and why Jesus was portrayed so blasphemously. Now I'm not religious by any means, but certainly some people in the audience are and I was more uncomfortable for them. Most of the audience laughed through the first act, I didn't hear one cackle in the second act at all. Most people seemed to hurry out after the show was over. I would never see this show again. The best performance by far was Baby Jane. Good voice. Collapse

      The negative reviews are puzzling; this was a terrific performance (yes, for mature audiences only) of an intriguing play. It's been two weeks and I'm still humming "Talk to the Hand"!

      This show is truly amazing, although practitioners of various religions may not like it. It truly is an opera (primarily sung), and some of the voices are superb. Production values are very high... Expand

      This show is truly amazing, although practitioners of various religions may not like it. It truly is an opera (primarily sung), and some of the voices are superb. Production values are very high and there is great ensemble work. Aside from a sold- out concert performance with Harvey Keitel, New York has never seen this (thanks largely to protests by certain groups). My recommendation: go now, before it leaves for Broadway.       I really had high hopes for this but it left me cold. I love my theatre edgy, but all the "shocking" language and situations don't mean a thing if it's not mixed with cleverness. The last thing I expected from this production was to be bored, but bored I was. Some good performances, though, and the cast seemed to be having a good time. Inventive staging too. It just didn't all add up. Collapse

      I found Jerry Springer: The Opera to be a very poor excuse for a professional production. I have attended numerous student productions at universities, which were significantly more professionally done. The acoustics were very amateurish. I was sitting in the last row and had difficulty hearing the words coming from the stage, which in retrospect worked out to be a positive, since it decreased the pain associated with sitting through the performance. I found one of the most embarrassing moments in the production to be when the actor playing Jerry Springer forgot his lines, and had trouble subsequently correcting for it. At another point, he stated that Jerry Springer came from Cincinnati, when he actually came from Cleveland; I guess they are both cities in Ohio that start with the letter C. Collapse

Kudos for set, costumes, staging, some voices. Book and music? Not so much. Despite the crude language and situations, this is surprisingly boring at times.
