Brooklyn-based duo High Places makes shimmering electronic music in the tropical vein of fellow explorers Animal Collective and El Guincho. Multi-instrumentalist Rob Barber and vocalist Mary Pearson create expansive, psychedelic-tinged music by layering Pearson's lilting, child-like vocals with syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk percussion and household objects, and filtering the results through electronics and a healthy amount of reverb. After high profile opening stints with Deerhunter and No Age last year, High Places began 2009 with the release of their critically acclaimed eponymous debut. Opening for High Places is solo electronic/drum act Soft Circle.
