    Boston in the Austen Era

Do you enjoy reading Jane Austen's stories of life in the Regency Period? Did you know that Boston, too, had a high society with genteel ladies and hard working servants? Come to "Boston in the Austen Era" and meet two real women whose lives reflect both the influences of British culture and manners and the unique American experience of the times. Mrs. Catherine Codman, widow of a wealthy Boston merchant, tells the story of her life among Boston's elite, of visits to London and to the English countryside, and how English country life influenced the Codman's own lifestyle in America. And, she shares a scandal or two to rival any in Austen's fiction! Followed by Mary, a servant, who was born in England and immigrated to the United States, giving her a perspective on the workings of fine homes in both cultures. Learn what went on "behind the scenes" in these elite households.
