Schubert and Brahms Masterworks will offer a sampling of the Schubert's late choral output and contrast it with works of a later Romantic period master, Johannes Brahms. Brahms' New Love-Song Waltzes (Neue Liebeslieder, op. 65) celebrate the joys and sorrows of love won and lost, and his rarely-heard set of Gypsy Songs (Zigeunerlieder) covey an even more emotional and fiery tribute to this most personal of human emotions. The virtuoso piano accompaniment will be played by favorite Boston-area pianist Karen Harvey, a frequent and most welcome collaborator with The Spectrum Singers. James Barkovic, the chorus's talented accompanist, will join Ms. Harvey in the piano four-hands accompaniment of the New Love-Song Waltzes.
