"The Empty Cradle: How Falling Birthrates Threaten World Prosperity and What To Do About It," a lecture by Phillip Longman. Overpopulation has long been seen as one of the most serious dangers facing the globe. Just the opposite is, however, true argues Phillip Longman, Schwartz Senior Fellow at the New American Foundation. As countries get richer, their populations age and birthrates plummit. This is not just a problem of rich countries: the developing world is also aging fast. Falling birthrates might seem beneficial, but the economic and social price is too steep to pay. Longman talks about the population implosion and how we can help families and the world build a sustainable future.
