Ethiopia's leading female singer both at home and abroad, Aster Aweke blends traditional Ethiopian songs and vocal techniques with influences from jazz, rhythm and blues, and other popular music styles. "The Aretha Franklin of Ethiopia," as she is known, will discuss her career and creative process and perform vocal selections accompanied by Betelehem Melaku on keyboard and krar (Ethiopian lyre).
